椛 Momiji (Japanese Maple) Pincushion
Shockingly, Japanese maple leaves do not seem to be extant in any traditional kogin designs, so I made my own. The leaves are stitched in a variegated thread that expresses the range of colors Japanese maples can cycle through in a year—purples, reds, oranges, yellows, and greens.

Each pincushion is stitched in cotton thread on hand-dyed cotton lugana with a wood base that has been stained and satin-finished with water-based products.
